what should i look for with these codes

Post by RJ93SS »

my dad's 92 legacy has an intermittant c/e problem.
the light will come on once in a while for a minute or two and then go off.

so i connected the black connectors and i got a 22(knock sensor) from the memory, then i did the green and black connectors and i was given a code 51(nuetral switch). where do i start?

clear the codes.

Green and black together is the procedure for clearing the codes.

Green alone puts the ECU in an active test mode.

Clear the codes and then see what comes back. Instructions are on my site.

i tried that, the stored code was a 22, and the active code came up as 51.

i should check the stored codes again to see if that 22 was erased. i was under the impression that if a code pops up in active mode it will not reset the memory.

I'd say that your neutral switch on the trans or gearchange is faulty or needs adjusting.

The knock is quite likely caused by the ignition timing not responding because the ecu thought the car was in neutral.

You should check the switch and it's wiring then see if the knock code goes away with a clear.
