So, I got my motor put in this evening and this weekend I'll be finishing up the exhaust system and hopefully starting to wire in my EM. I'd been thinking about a MSD DIS-2 for a while now but with money being watched a little closer I'm not sure I need it.
I do plan on ultimately running around 16-20psi but it will take me a few weeks to get there safely. I did also go ahead and gap my plugs at 0.035" - 0.036" as I don't want to mess with plugs on these DOHC heads any more than I have to.
I know there have been a few reports and they've been positive but there hasn't been a whole lot said about the kit in terms of direct improvements over a stock diamond coil-pack.
So, the question is, will the diamond pack be adequate or should I just man up and get the MSD kit? And along those lines, can the regular 'non-plus' version still be found? Seems like the cheapest one I can find is around $450ish which is a bit steep. I don't need all the fancy programming and such.
Thoughts, comments, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Re: MSD DIS-2, really needed?
I can tell you that when I initially installed the MSD Dis-2 in my non-turbo back in 2002 it did make a slight difference to the butt dyno and overall how the car ran.
Fast forward to today, with the boost I'm running, I have not had any problems with my ignition system, Dis-2 & diamond coil pack. Whether that's a result of the Dis-2 or not....I can't say....but, I'm sure it isn't hurting.

Re: MSD DIS-2, really needed?
I haven't ever run the car with out it, since Dave had it installed when I bought it. So I can't comment on anything besides it becoming one more thing in the engine bay and one more thing to troubleshoot.

Mine has been completely 100% trouble free. I set everything up in 2002, and have done absolutely nothing with it. It's one of the few things I have not done anything with...haha

Re: MSD DIS-2, really needed?
Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like this is something I do ultimately want to install but given Doug's point, I think I'll hold off for now. If I don't 'need' it I probably should just get the car running first.
Again, many thanks.

It's def not a necessary component if there are more pressing matters at hand.
