Need help Heater not working

Post by samurai »

Hi i'm new here and last week i bought a 92 Legacy Sedan 4EAT and the first thing i noticed is that the heater isn't working....or is it the fans? i'm not too sure....i mean the rear defroster seems to work and after a little bit i feel heat but i think it might just be from the engine...i'm not sure...the buttons for the heat and defrost work but when i change the dial's i get nothing...if someone could give me some insite on this it would be helpful or some alternatives....I live in Madison Wi, and i'm gonna nead warmth fast

Possibly worth looking into: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1142

Do you feel air out of the vents when the fan is on and a button is pushed?

Coolant is always circulating through the heater core, so it's jut a matter of having the selector lever in the correct position to give you heat or outside air. When you move the lever, it should have some resistance and you'll hear a door moving in the HVAC ducts.

I feel air but it feels likes it's coming just from the engine...i don't hear anything like air blowing or anything...and when i try to change the fan setting from like 1-4 (or is it 5?) it doesn't do anything...if it's warm tommorrow i might try getting back there but i'm a big man...and don't know exactly where or what to look for..

Directly under the glovebox is the blower motor. It comes out with 3 screws. Remove the glovebox and it's very easy to take out. You could see if it's getting power.

I found a heater core for a 97 outback and was wondering if it would fit in my 92

I would have my doubts it would work. It may, but I'd be rather skeptical
