I took pocession of a complete 1996 WRX engine, plus a 2002 WRX intake manifold and intercooler. (i realy didn't paid much - 50$...)
First of all, the WRX intake manifold is equipped with thumble Generators. We don't have the electronic to drive them ! ..
Second, the bold pattern is not the same at all. the 4 bolts are offset, as on our Ej22T.. (but wider). That's the point i dont understand, sice i compared the STI2 gasket with a WRX02 gasket at my dealer, and they were the same, and the STI2 gasket is the same as the WRX96 one .. my dealer should have took the wrong gasket when giving me the wrx02 one... nyway

So if you want to mount WRX02 intake, you MUST have the corresponding WRX02 Heads, and find a way to disable the thumble generators (removing the plate maybe)
The WRX02 Throttle Body is 2.5" thick. The WRX96 one is 3.5" thick, and it's thight to fit the WRX02 intercooler. The WRX02 Throttle body will bold on the WRX96 manifold, but there is a hole left by the IAC derivation holes. Some customising need to be done there.. This swap gives 1" of extra space to fit the intercooler.

The WRX96 heads (the ones with 2 bolts coils) seems to have a .. humm... less bigger volume difference.. may not require piston swap (i'll have to measure the chamber volume)
