Corner Lenses Discussion for 90-91

I actually bought a corner light from the junkyard the other day. Brian (subarujunkie) and I dremeled the thing enough so that we could get the blinker into the hole. We worked at it and worked at it until we could make it fit, but to make it fit, there isn't much left of the tabs at all.

The other problem I had was once I hooked it up to my car and played with the parking lights to simulate blinking I couldn't tell how noticable the orange was. From straight on it looked like you could tell, but from a slight angle it didn't seem too clear. I think having the 92+ side lights might help.

The reason for that come from the bulbs themselves. The blinker amber bulbs are a lot large than the stock 91 corner bulbs. They are larger in circumference and in leangth. They stick out farther from the reflector (further into the light housing) and that may cause a reduction in light reflection and visability.

For those of you who don't already know or bothered to read the whole post, I was thinking ( and may still be) of trying to move the blinkers to the corner's stock position. I also want to move the stock corner bulbs to come in from a different angle in the housing. Probalby closer to the top. That way I can keep the white parking light and get the blinker as well. Also, the blinker will get the max lighing from the reflector. Doing it this way keeps things simple wiring wise, and moves the blinker up to the parking light. I don't want to lose hte parking light, because then I'd have dark parking lights and more than likely irradic blinkers. I wouldn't think of doing this meathod without the side lights as blinkers idea that vrg3 has talked about earlier.

I'm not sure how doable this project still is, but I'll see how it goes. I'll keep you posted as I do more stuff, but I just thought I'd give an update.

Oh, I tried the painting the bulbs thing as well. It seemed to work, but I could never get a smooth finish. haha (I was trying it with a blinker sized bulb instead of the normal parking light; maybe doing it to the parking light would be easier since it is smaller).

My idea:


Splice the wires from the turn signals to the corner lenses so the corner lens bulbs do both.

Would that require a dual-filament bulb, or could it be wired to do it with just one?

I'm not sure. We'd need vrg3 or some electrical sort of chap to answer that question.

I just don't want irradic blinkers.
