Got my clutch

Post by snowjob »

Well I got my WRX clutch from a 02, completely stock and in awsome condition with only 4200 miles. So I got all excited and went and sent my stock flywheel out for lightening.
Well tonight I got the flywheel back and went to bolt the wrx clutch, but Alas we have a problem. The springs on the back of the clutch plate hit the mounting bolts of the flywheel which bolt to the crank. So this is my problem, what should I do?? please help me those of you who have done the swap.

Thanks
Frazer

are you sure youve got the clutch facing the right way?

Yeah, I tried both ways, theirs no way it would go on one side, and the other has a slight tap when it hits the bolts.

I thought that the turbo and NA clutches were somehow different? can an NA 91 take stock 02 WRX clutches and flywheels? I know that this time around, when i change the clutch, which might be soon, i'd be needing a new flywheel, which must be ~14lbs. Going LW since i'm there, you know?

They are different. I don't think you can easily make an NA car use a turbo clutch.

Problem solved

Post by snowjob »

So I went to Bully Clutch here in ottawa, they lightned my flywheel, and it turns out the clutch I recieved ends up being a STI clutch, the guy who owns the shop ownes one and he looked at it and said, that's an sti clutch, :P
A bit more machining to be done, and it will fit.
Anyone using the stock sti clutch and pressure plate.....
I'm pretty stoked over this revelation and can hardly wait to get it into the conversion... I'll keep you posted.
