I'd be suspicious of the alternator. may want to have it tested.

I had this problem on my SVX along with other owners. Like 777 said,it could be a bad alternator. I would start with cleaning up the altenator connections. That is what took care of the problem on my car. If that does not work it is most likely the alternator going bad.

Take the alternator to an auto parts store and have them test it. Most likely it will be bad.

Use a meter. The battery's part of the circuit so either way it should kill the car to remove it. Am I wrong? I know older cars were wired in series.

No....don't ever remove the battery while the car is running......that's a good way to fry things.

The battery acts as a sink and filter to help smooth out the voltage spikes coming from the alternator. Remove it....and you lose that smoothing affect with the voltage.

Take the car to an autoparts store and have them test the alternator. SIMPLE!

I will however caution you that sometimes they may still show marginal or good when in the car. If you want a true test....take it out of the car and bring it into the store for them to test.
