I've only had the wires on for a very short time, so I can't say yet whether that problem will come up. I did notice that the coil ends of the wires really didn't have any kind of locking mechanism to keep them in place. Moreover, the coil towers on the coil pack itself are tapered, which would make...

I know this is an old post, so maybe you've found more out since then, but anyway... As far as I know, the ECU cuts fuel if boost pressure exceeds its threshold of safety. The ECU also operates the wastegate control solenoid to bleed pressure away from the wastegate in an attempt to achieve its desi...

At worst you might have to replace the crimp-on terminals and the spark plugs. I don't know how much the terminals are, but NGK copper plugs are like $1.50 each or something... If you do find signs of arcing, you might just try replacing the plugs and filing the terminals clean rather than replacing...

No problem, just hope to help out... You should be able to tell if the current has been arcing between the wire and the plug by looking at the metal terminal (by shining a flashlight into the boot) and by looking at the end of the plug. Look for streaks or scorch marks, or other obvious signs of hig...

Magnecor installation tip
I just finished setting up my new ignition system. Diamond coil pack, Magnecor 8.5mm wires, NGK copper plugs (I had misguidedly put Bosch Platinums in before), and an MSD DIS-2. I have to say, the car really seems to pull harder, especially at low engine speeds. Magnecor wires seem to have a reputat...

The turbo probably does speed up just as you release the throttle. The pressure on the wastegate actuator line would drop suddenly, so the wastegate would slam shut. This would only be transient because with a mostly closed throttle the turbine wouldn't receive enough energy to sustain the speed. Th...

I have a hypothesis: I'd bet that exhaust gas temperatures would go up with this mod. Can anyone verify or refute this? The reason I'm thinking this, Aaron, is that you say the car isn't as fast, loud, and spools slower. You could easily remedy all of these by installing a ball-and-spring manual boo...

I have not done this mod, and do not ever plan to. I think it isn't a good idea, at least with an otherwise stock setup. The compressor outlet is the right place for the wastegate actuator to read boost. The ECU measures manifold pressure when deciding how much air to bleed away from the wastegate a...

Sounds like a good plan! It looks like you're aware of the issues you'll need to tackle. Basically, you need to know how the ignitor works in the WRX and wire it correctly. If the WRX has a four-channel ignitor (which would make sense to me) you just wire each pair in parallel; the ECU's ignitor out...

ciper: I did the Buy It Now (tm) deal. Some other guy outbid you before I did that though. You may be right that the ignitor's not integrated, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was. Off the top of my head, I don't seem to remember seeing one in the middle of my '97 Legacy GT or '97 Imprez...

I'm wondering, with this talk of replacing coil packs with later-model Subaru coil packs... I have a little plastic housing containing the igniter (ignitor?) in the center of my '93 Turbo's firewall. This is basically two big ol' transistors. My understanding was that at some point along the line Su...

From what I understand, you should be fine, unless you have other problems to begin with. When I put WRX rims and tires on my '93 Legacy Turbo they scrubbed the wheel wells in the rear a tiny bit on sharp turns. I'm pretty sure my rear springs are worn out, though, since I left a lot of weight in th...

Yep, the IAC valve is just below the PCV valve. The top of it is a little plastic rectangle-like thing mounted in place with two screws. I actually haven't really found it documented anywhere, but the IAC valve is adjustable. You can adjust it in place if you remove the plastic coil cover and the li...

Legacy777: What's the procedure for bleeding the master cylinder? I looked before for a bleeder screw under there and didn't see one. rallysam: I think I let air get in through the master cylinder once when I didn't top it off properly while bleeding, and I ended up doing one complete round of bleed...
