NEW Rear speakers working, then stopped

Post by robbcolecrabtree »

So I installed some new rear speakers in the wagon. I checked them as I was installing them and everything was fine. I got both sides in, they sounded good. Then I put the plastic covers back on, everything was tightened down, and I put my tools away, then..... No sound out all. It's like when I put the plastic covers on, and put my tools away, my speakers went on their union mandated break. Not sure what to do. I am going to go back in and check wiring, but does anyone have any ideas. Thanks for the help.

Just curious why would your speakers be grounded?

If you are in fact grounding your speakers to chassis I suggest fixing that before you blow up your amp in your head unit. Radios have not been wired like that for about 30 years now...

I believe he meant that one of the speaker terminals(non insulated connector) was shorted to ground on the expansion tank that sits under the speaker in the wagons. A simple rotation of the speaker solves this.

I had this problem in my TW too. Ended up putting a layer of duct tape under the speakers terminal area so there wouldn't be any contact.
